Reading List: Summer Before Seminary Posted on August 6, by Rachel Hackenberg Sometimes at work, when I’m puzzling and pondering and trying to flesh out a word or idea, I swivel my chair away from the computer and turn to face my bookshelves. Due to the length of the (ever growing) book list it became necessary to split it in two. Here’s the second part, consisting of the following sections: NOTE ABOUT THE SEARCH FUNCTION: The searched for terms will be highlighted in yellow throughout all the pages. These book are recommended to help enhance the formation of Catholic seminarians and ongoing formation of Catholic Priests. But let's be honest: many Catholics have found this list helpful who aren't priests or seminarians.

Other Papal and Magisterial Documents for. I have been reading Susan Howatch’s Church of England series the last couple weeks. (I only have read the first 3 of 6) but I would suggest them. Good fiction books that take religious life and faith seriously but are focused on sin within the clergy in a historical fiction setting ( to England so far).

A seminarian’s life is a life of reading. Throughout a seminary degree program, you will read thousands of pages. In this series, “Recommended Reading,” we have selected some of the best books and articles assigned in seminary classes throughout North America.

Every Friday, we will feature five books in a variety of subjects, such as. Mere Christianity by C. Lewis. Basic Christian Doctrine / summarizes the beliefs that almost all Christians have held in Common in all times whether Baptist, Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, etc.

The book begins from the standpoint of an atheist and argues for the rationality and philosophical soundness of Christian belief.

Compiled by the faculty of the Christian Studies Department, Mississippi College. The following volumes represent a selection of basic works that will orient the seminary bound student with a basic background in the biblical, theological, historical and practical ministry areas.

Our Seminarians. Seminarian Directory St. Thérèse of Lisieux, because I directly credit her with getting me to seminary. I was reading her book “Story of a Soul,” when my college chaplain noticed that and then encouraged me to pray about going to the seminary. This year, I ask her to help me grow in love for Jesus.

Recommended Books from DTS Faculty. Last spring the Dallas Seminary Book Center polled members of the faculty for what books they considered essential to our graduates entering ministry. Here’s what some of them said: Reg Grant: Think, by John Piper.

I have been required to read, from your list, 3 books plus half of the OT. At that rate, it would certianly be quite a challenge to get through this list on top of the required reading by the end of seminary.

Am I being required to read the wrong books. North American College, Rome - Theology III. Benjamin Cowan. Mount Angel Seminary, OR - Pre-Theology II. Editor’s note: Over the years, we’ve often received requests for a Tradition-friendly reading list to deepen Catholics’ knowledge of and sophistication on the our list of books to read and recommend grows, so does our list of tasks, and so the reading list had to hit the back burner – which is why we are grateful to Whispers of Restoration for doing the work for us, and for.

One place I often turn is a list composed by Fr. John McCloskey. He’s an Opus Dei priest and fellow book-lover, and he’s put together what he calls the “Catholic Lifetime Reading Plan” including the best Catholic books of all time (the late Fr.

John Hardon has a book with the same name.) From biography to literature, history to. There is only one book on the list with God as its author. Read Sacred Scripture days per year. The other authors are secondary.

Godspeed, Taylor Marshall, PhD. Bibles. Marshall only recommends two English Bibles for serious theology students: Douay Rheims-Challoner and RSV-CE with a preference for the Douay Rheims-Challoner in most cases. These books have helped me do just that. If you find just one book on this list that challenges you as a leader, then it has been a success.
